Introduction

        The Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University is a crucial component of its "three campuses, five sites" framework, emphasizing medical sciences and emerging engineering disciplines. As the first batch of construction schools, the School of Public Health (Shenzhen) aims to uphold and promote the university's tradition of "learning at Sun Yat-sen, pursuing excellence." It will develop complementarily with the School of Public Health at the Guangzhou campus, addressing significant needs in public health and preventive medicine education, disease prevention and control, and overall public health in China and globally.

        The school will focus on interdisciplinary and cutting-edge academic research, particularly on the etiology, epidemiology, and detection technologies of infectious diseases, including emerging infectious diseases, as well as vaccine and drug prevention and control technologies. The goal is to build a modern public health school characterized by its specialization in infectious disease prevention and control, with comprehensive programs that lead nationally and rank among the best internationally.

        The school adheres to the direction of education with Chinese characteristics, fundamentally based on moral and intellectual development. It follows the development philosophy of "supporting first-class teaching with first-class research and promoting first-class research with first-class teaching." The school aims to construct three major platforms: a key theory and prevention technology platform for infectious diseases, an epidemiology and systems biology research platform, and a key theory and prevention technology platform for food safety. Concurrently, it will develop research platforms in occupational health and environmental health, child and adolescent health and maternal and child healthcare, and health toxicology. Through scientific research, talent cultivation, and social services, the school aims to provide theoretical and technical support for infectious disease prevention and control in China and globally, and to train elite public health professionals for the new era.
